| 2025-08-06 00:00:00Z | Aug. 05, 2025 | Kerry Feilmeier | How Heartland Humane Society impacts Vermillion, their goals for growth, & Veterinary Care Needs | Aug. 06, 2025 |
Introduction of Kerry Feilmeier Executive Director, Heartland Humane Society Kerry Feilmeier has led Heartland Humane Society since 2011, back when the shelter served just 200 pets a year. Under her leadership, HHS has grown into a vibrant community resource impacting more than 1,000 pets annually through adoption, outreach, and education programs. A rural Yankton native and proud USD alumna (Neuharth Scholar included), Kerry blends her roots in journalism and nonprofit work with a deep passion for animals. Before taking the reins at HHS, she worked in print and radio journalism and transitioned into nonprofit leadership in 2007. When she’s not navigating donor campaigns or media interviews, Kerry is juggling life as a fourth-generation farmer. She and her husband Brian raise livestock on their family farm near Utica, SD—because who doesn’t want to start their morning bottle-feeding calves and end the day snuggling kittens? Somehow, she balances both worlds with grace and a good dose of humor. Kerry’s strengths lie in fundraising, marketing, and public relations—skills she uses daily to make sure the voices of animals are heard, funded, and loved. |
