Deb Wolf, Director of Strategic Partnerships, provides a detailed, informative presentation about America's underground research facility- the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in the site of the former Homestake mine. She presents fascinating discussion of the operations of facility, examples of research being conducted, the economic impact of the facility and so much more. The facility is so important because it's deep underground location blocks cosmic radiation allowing scientists to study rare subatomic events that would not be possible to study on the Earth's surface. Research on Dark Matter and Neutrinos is being conducted, along with projects in geology, biology and engineering.
