Lt. Drew Gortmaker of the Vermillion Police Department visited the Vermillion Rotary Club to help us recognize and avoid fraudulent activity and scams. Here are a few of the statistics on the importance of this problem that were discussed in the presentation: 1. Online scamming had reported losses of $12.5 billion in the U.S. in 2024. 2. 73% of Americans across all age groups have experienced some kind of online scam or attack. 3. Americans most commonly report that online hackers made fraudulent claims to their credit or debit cards (48%). Click on the image below to view the video of Lt.
